Chapter Eight

Back at Mark’s house, he didn’t give Lexi time to think. “Here, put this on.” He handed her a jumble of shoes and clothing he pulled from the hall closet.

Lexi held up one shoe and gulped. The heel had to be at least six inches. The kind of shoes Lady Gaga would wear. “I don’t know if I can walk in these.”

“You’re not going to be walking.”

“Oh, good.”

“We’re going to dance.”

She gave a little “eep,” of panic.

Mark smiled. “Just change, it’ll be all right. You’ll see.”

“Okay,” she said, hesitant. When she moved to go to the bathroom, he put a hand on her arm to stop her.

“No. Change here.”

“Here?” Her gaze flickered to the windows. It was dark out and the lights in the living room would expose her to any late night beachcombers.

“Yes, here.” He crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow as she ran a hand across the fabric, hesitating.

“Lexi.”

“Yes?”

“Look at me.”

She lifted her head.

“Unbutton your shirt.” Authority filled his voice and strummed across her skin.

Hands shaking, she moved to do as he asked.

“Unzip your skirt,” he said once her shirt had been thrown onto the couch.

Skirt puddled around her ankles, she crossed her arms over her stomach acutely aware of how little her sheer bra and thong panties covered.

If not for the way Mark watched her, his gaze tracing every curve with rapt attention, she would’ve been embarrassed. Instead, thanks to his scorching appraisal, she felt sexy and a bit naughty.

“And the shoes,” Mark said. He had to clear his throat to speak and Lexi smiled at that.

She slipped her feet into the shoes and stood on wobbling ankles as Mark continued to scrutinize her. Putting a hand on her hip, she said, “You like?”

“Very much.” He picked up a remote. “Do you dance?”

She wiggled her hips and managed some pelvic thrusts without falling over.

He shook his head. “I’m not talking about the bump and grind. I’m talking about swing, the waltz, the foxtrot, the rumba. Ever dance any of those?”

“No. Aren’t those...” she trailed off, not wanting to offend.
